Our Mission & Vision
Every word of our mission is lived daily in the lives of widows we walk alongside throughout Alberta.
Our Mission
The Blessing Widows Ministry Society exists to provide holistic, compassionate support to widows and their families across Alberta — ensuring that no woman faces the journey of loss alone.
We believe that widowhood is one of life's most profound transitions, bringing with it not only deep grief but also practical challenges that can feel overwhelming without the right support. From navigating government benefits and managing finances independently for the first time, to confronting loneliness and rebuilding identity — widows face a unique set of needs that our ministry is specifically designed to address.
Our mission is carried out through a comprehensive range of programs: grief support circles, financial literacy workshops, legal and housing referrals, community meals, children and family services, and specialized care for senior widows. Each program is delivered with professional care, cultural sensitivity, and the warmth of genuine community.
Our Vision
We envision an Alberta where every widow is seen, valued, and fully supported — where the loss of a spouse does not mean the loss of community, financial security, or a hopeful future.
Our vision reaches beyond the walls of our current programs. We are working toward a province-wide network of widow-support services, accessible to women in every community — from the suburbs of Edmonton and Calgary to the smallest rural towns in northern Alberta. We are building infrastructure, training community leaders, and forging partnerships that will make this vision a lasting reality.
Ultimately, we envision a society in which widows and their children thrive: financially stable, emotionally healed, spiritually grounded, and deeply connected to a community that celebrates their resilience. We are not merely responding to a need — we are helping to shape a more compassionate Alberta.
“We stand with every widow in her grief, walk with her through her healing, and celebrate with her as she steps into a future full of hope and possibility.”
— Blessing Widows Ministry Society
Our Core Values
Six principles that shape every decision we make, every program we run, and every relationship we build.
Compassion
We lead with empathy and a genuine desire to ease suffering. Every interaction with a widow is approached with patience, kindness, and heartfelt care — never judgment.
Dignity
We honour the full personhood of every widow — her history, her strength, her grief, and her dreams. Our support empowers rather than diminishes, always preserving her sense of self-worth.
Community
We believe healing happens in relationship. We actively build a community of belonging where widows find friendship, mutual support, and the irreplaceable comfort of knowing they are not alone.
Empowerment
We equip widows with the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to take charge of their lives. Our programmes build capacity, not dependence — because we believe in every woman's potential.
Faith
Rooted in a faith-based conviction that every person has inherent value, we offer spiritual support and encouragement to those who seek it — while welcoming and serving women of all backgrounds and beliefs.
Integrity
We are transparent, accountable, and trustworthy in all we do. Widows and their families can count on us to follow through on our commitments with consistency, honesty, and professional excellence.
Mission in Action
Our mission is not a document on a wall — it is a commitment lived out in every support group, every workshop, every meal shared, and every phone call answered.
When a widow walks through our doors for the first time — or joins us on a video call — she is not just accessing a service. She is joining a community that will remember her name, celebrate her milestones, and stand with her through every season of her journey.
