Grief support circle meeting for widows in Spruce Grove Alberta

Grief & Emotional Support Groups

Our peer-led and professionally facilitated grief support circles provide a safe, confidential space for widows to share their experiences, express their emotions, and find comfort in community.

Facilitated by trained grief counsellors and experienced peer supporters, our weekly circles meet both in-person in Spruce Grove and virtually to serve widows across Alberta. Sessions draw on evidence-based approaches to grief processing while remaining flexible and responsive to each participant's needs.

Topics explored include: navigating the stages of grief, managing loneliness and isolation, rebuilding identity and self-confidence, co-parenting as a single parent, and finding purpose and meaning after loss.

  • Weekly in-person sessions in Spruce Grove
  • Bi-weekly virtual sessions for rural participants
  • Individual counselling referrals available
  • Confidential and welcoming to all backgrounds

Financial Literacy Workshops

Managing finances independently — often for the first time — is one of the most daunting challenges widows face. Our Financial Literacy Workshop Series provides practical, accessible education tailored specifically to widows' real-life situations.

Delivered in partnership with certified financial advisors and Alberta social service professionals, our workshops cover essential topics in plain, jargon-free language. Participants leave with concrete tools, resources, and confidence to take control of their financial future.

Workshop topics include: understanding wills and estate settlements, navigating CPP Survivor Benefits and Alberta government assistance programs, budgeting on a single income, managing debt, and long-term financial planning for retirement.

  • Quarterly intensive workshop series
  • One-on-one financial coaching available
  • Take-home resource packages provided
  • Free of charge for all participants

Our programme coordinators help widows assess their situation, understand their rights, and connect with the appropriate services without delay.

We assist with: estate administration referrals, understanding spousal inheritance rights, housing security and lease rights for widows, transitional housing options, and applications for government housing assistance programs.

Community Meals & Fellowship

Shared meals are at the heart of how we build community. Our monthly Community Meals bring widows and their children together for nourishment, laughter, and the simple joy of belonging.

Held on the first Saturday of each month at our Spruce Grove meeting space, Community Meals are a highlight for many of our members. Volunteers prepare a warm, home-cooked meal while creating an atmosphere of celebration and connection. Children are welcome, and activities are provided to engage younger family members.

Beyond the meals, we host seasonal events throughout the year — holiday gatherings, summer picnics, cultural celebrations, and annual milestone events that mark significant moments in the lives of our members. These events are a powerful reminder that joy is still possible and that community can be rebuilt after loss.

  • Monthly community dinners — first Saturday of each month
  • Family-friendly — children warmly welcome
  • Seasonal events and holiday gatherings
  • Facilitated by dedicated volunteer teams
